home to the Sami

8th day:

We continue heading north to Lapland, home to the Sami (as the people of Lapland should be known).

Our campsite lies on a small peninsula that juts into the crystal-clear waters of a beautiful lake. Inger, the manager is a charming Sami who also breeds reindeer and loves teaching visitors about her culture.

This evening she has asked a well-known Swedish musician to give us a concert of traditional songs and music. We also enjoy a slideshow of our photos (a regular feature of the Rally), during which the organisers provide tips on how we can improve our photography.

We end the day sitting around the campfire or in the sauna, soaking up the magnificent light of the sun as it dips towards the horizon, bathing the lakeshore in beautiful colours.
